As a staff member at a Jewish overnight camp, you also develop organizational and leadership skills that will prepare you for your future: teaching, counseling, mentoring, facilitation, teambuilding, logistics, program design, collaborating on program development, and managing others. Talk to more senior members of the camp staff—activity directors, rabbis, educators, and camp's senior leadership—and explore what a career in Jewish life could be like.

  1. The Outreach Manager for Habonim Dror Camp Tavor has year-round primary responsibility for all aspects of marketing, recruitment and registration and is one of the two primary public faces of Tavor.

    Our ideal candidate is: passionate about Jewish camping and seeks to make a career in the field, is enthusiastic about youth empowerment and leadership, has a youth movement background, is tech-savvy, and able to work independently while easily being part of a group effort. S/he is an excellent communicator in both oral and written communications,and has the educational background and work experience that supports this passion and enthusiasm. 

    Duties and Responsibilities: Opens, nurtures and closes ‘sale’ of new campers.

  2. Counselors care for and live with campers as role models. As facilitators of campers' experience, counselors strive to raise self esteem, empower children to take on challenges and leadership opportunities, and foster the bunk group dynamic by actively participating in all camp activities offered by specialists. Excellent communication skills, group leading, childcare experience and love of nature are essential. 

  3. Year-round administration and direction of camp.

    Requires: relevant university degree; strong Jewish background and commitment to Jewish communal life; strong experience in working with children and teens; a background in resident summer camping; a demonstrated experience in fiscal management; residence in Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta during the winter months and residence at the camp during the summer. 

    Salary is commensurate with training and experience.

  4. The Body Works Director, a.k.a. the "Pulse" Director, oversees or leads all daily non-competitive and semi-competitive sports programming, as well as serves as the camp's body guru, incorporating nutrition and body awareness as part of daily programming. Experience leading yoga and meditation is highly desirable. 

  5. The Waterfront Director lifeguards and oversees all lifeguard duties at the camp's lake and pool. Candidate must have at least three years of lifeguarding experience, be lifeguard-certified, be able to lead swim instruction, and incorporate creative and meaningful water-related activities. Applicants must demonstrate successful experience with strict safety protocol.

  6. The Head Nurse is trained and certified in western medicine, and has knowledge and inclination towards eastern medicine as well. The Head Nurse has pediatric experience, and some availability in April to begin purchasing for the summer. This position requires an RN, NP or MD degree.
